Wednesday, February 8, for the first time since the start of the war, Volodymyr Zelensky is received by Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace. Earlier in the day, the Ukrainian president began his tour of the United Kingdom, Ukraine’s biggest financial backer after the United States. The Head of State was successively received by the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, then by the monarch Charles III.

“Wings for Freedom”

Volodymyr Zelensky then spoke at the top of the steps of Westminster Hall. The President of Ukraine made a request: “I ask you and the world […] fighter jets for Ukraine, wings for freedom.” For now, Westerners are opposed to delivering planes. However, at a press conference, the British Prime Minister opened a door ajar: “We will train Ukrainian pilots to NATO standards..” On Thursday, Volodymyr Zelensky will continue his mini-European tour in Brussels (Belgium), before the European Parliament and then at the European Council.
