(New York) Tennis legend Roger Federer, singer Dua Lipa, and actresses Michaela Coel and Penélope Cruz will co-chair the next gala at the Metropolitan Museum, a major social event in New York, where stars parade in extravagant outfits.
The quartet will accompany the high priestess of fashion and the magazine’s editor on the steps of the Met vogueAnna Wintour, who chairs each edition of the event, announced the New York museum in a press release.
Both a celebrity parade and a socialite and philanthropic evening, the “Met Gala” is the main source of funding for the museum’s fashion department (The Costume Institute), an estimated total of more than $16 million in 2021.
Each year, the event takes place on the first Monday of May and accompanies the opening of the major exhibition of the “Costume Institute”, dedicated in 2023 to the designer who died in 2019, Karl Lagerfeld.
The dress code for the evening will be: “in honor of Karl”.
It is generally from this imposed theme that the great couturiers and luxury brands design the most original or extravagant outfits worn by international stars to stand out on the red carpet, in front of clouds of photographers.
The choice of the presidents of the gala is also scrutinized in the world of fashion and celebrities. Next to Roger Federer, tennis legend who retired in 2022, is Spanish actress Penélope Cruz, who had marched for Karl Lagerfeld.
The other two co-chairs are rising stars of music and fiction: the British and Albanian singer Dua Lipa, known for the success Levitating and who totals six Brit Awards and three Grammy Awards at 27, as well as actress and screenwriter Michaela Coel, 35, author of the series I may destroy you on the story of a rape and its consequences, and who embodies one of the characters of the latest Marvel cinema, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
