(MANILA) Filipina Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Ressa and her online newspaper Rappler were acquitted on Wednesday of four counts of tax evasion on which they were being prosecuted, an appeals court said.
Maria Ressa, co-winner of the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize in 2021 with Dmitry Muratov, faces three other criminal cases, including a conviction for cybercrime, currently on appeal, for which she faces nearly seven years in prison.
“The truth won out,” says Maria Ressa.
