Dave Chappelle asked the crowd during his comedy show to “make some noise for the richest man in the world.”
The spectators made noise. Lots of boos.
It was a rather uncomfortable appearance for Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk at Dave Chappelle’s show with Chris Rock on Sunday night at the Chase Center in San Francisco. At the end of the show, the comedian spoke about the need to get along and communicate with people with different perspectives and points of view.
He invited Elon Musk on stage. The billionaire agreed and loud boos filled the arena, along with cheers.
Chappelle’s reaction
Chappelle joked with Musk that he was probably dealing with “people he fired.” As the boos continued to ring out, the comedian pointed out that everyone who was upset was sitting in “bad seats.”
Twitter has been undergoing massive changes since Elon Musk took over the social media platform, with the first few weeks of his tenure marked by widespread layoffs and the restoration of several suspended accounts, including those of former President Donald Trump and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Musk stayed on stage for a long time and shook hands with many artists who had joined Chappelle. Spectators had been required to lock their phones during the show, but a few videos of the event surfaced online.
