“No Russian interference”: the Kremlin on Wednesday denied any link with the members of a far-right and conspiratorial group arrested in Germany and accused of having wanted to attack the institutions of the country.
“This is an internal problem in the Federal Republic of Germany, they themselves see that no interference from Russia can be mentioned here,” reacted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
The German public prosecutor’s office announced on Wednesday the arrest of 25 people suspected of being members of a small group which planned attacks against democratic institutions, in particular against Parliament.
According to the prosecution, one of the leaders of this cell had contacted “representatives of the Russian Federation in Germany”. But, according to the investigations carried out so far by Berlin, nothing indicates that these Russian interlocutors reacted positively to the request.
Earlier Wednesday, the Russian Embassy in Berlin had stressed that it had no connection with “terrorist” or “illegal” organizations in Germany, a few hours after the announcement of the dismantling of this conspiratorial group.
“Russian diplomatic and consular establishments in Germany have no contact with representatives of terrorist groups or any other illegal formations,” the embassy said, quoted by state news agencies Ria Novosti and Tass.
