A 95-year-old man succumbed to his injuries after being found unconscious in the garage of a house that was damaged by flames in Boucherville late Monday afternoon.

Firefighters were called shortly after 4 p.m. to intervene to put out a blaze in a bungalow on rue Charles-Roy, near rue Pierre-Davignon.

According to the Longueuil agglomeration police department (SPAL), the death of the nonagenarian was found at the hospital where the victim had been transported.
The origin of the fire would be accidental, but the circumstances should be established by the investigators who moved to the scene Tuesday morning.

A security perimeter has also been erected to protect the scene, it was added.
About 30 firefighters were deployed to battle the flames which caused damage estimated at $150,000.
