At the beginning of October 2022, the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office (PNF) opened a preliminary investigation into the heads of “favouritism”, “influence peddling”, “corruption” and any other related offense relating to the management of the group of public interest (GIP) France 2023, France Télévisions learned on Wednesday November 9, confirming information from The Team. A search was in progress in different placesin particular at the headquarters of GIP France 2023, Wednesday noon.
The investigation is entrusted to the research section of Paris, which comes under the gendarmerie. This preliminary investigation is the result of a joint report from the General Inspectorate of Finance and the General Inspectorate of Education, Sport and Research, specifies the PNF to France Télévisions.
The opening of the PNF investigation comes a month after the dismissal of Claude Atcher from the general management of the organization of the competition. He was singled out by a first salvo of revelations from the newspaper The Teamon June 22, on working conditions and the atmosphere within the World Cup Organizing Committee.
