No booster, no Christmas

It is decided, the holiday season for us this year will be similar to that of last year. Wishes and hugs from a distance. I explain the stubbornness in not making eligible for the booster dose of the anti-COVID vaccine, not for the entire population, but at least 60 years and over, by the urgency to vaccinate the 5 to 11 years old years.

A whole logistics is needed in order to succeed in injecting a first dose in record time at school or in a vaccination center. No more children vaccinated now, no more children fully vaccinated before the 2022 school break.

However, many people under the age of 70 cross the six-month mark since their second dose. Among the factors that many experts do not take into account: there are grandparents who are already often called in to look after their grandchildren – and we do not know what would happen if there was an indefinite strike in a childcare center -; there is the obligation to go to the vaccination sites, far away, despite the vagaries of the weather; there are seniors that a caregiver must accompany; and there is the holiday season, which poses a higher risk of contamination.

Since the vaccine is a prevention tool, why decide on the eligibility of older people, especially according to the number of hospitalizations in progress, as the INSPQ does? Why wait for patients under the age of 70 to be hospitalized before initiating vaccination for those aged 60 and over without further delay?
