The formation welcomed on stage during these two performances the Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani, who sang in Persian the words of Baraye in front of some 72,000 spectators gathered at the Monumental stadium in Buenos Aires, as well as in front of the thousands of people who watched the retransmission, on Friday, in cinemas in 81 countries. Chris Martin dedicated the performance to “young women and young people who are fighting for their freedom, for the right to be themselves”.

The verses of Baraye form a quilt of 31 messages posted online by Iranian citizens stating their reasons for taking to the streets. Created by popular musician Shervin Hajipour, and launched at the end of September, the piece quickly became the anthem of the protests denouncing violence against women, a movement initiated following the September 16 death of Mahsa Amini, while she was in the custody of the vice squad.

Coldplay was on the third and fourth night of a series of ten dates at the stadium in the Argentine capital, which will end on November 8. The tour Music of the Spheres will thus become the best seller in the history of this venue, surpassing the 650,000 ticket mark.
