Celebrities who smoke cannabis: From Cameron Diaz to Miley Cyrus

Many showbiz personalities have publicly acknowledged that they’ve used or still use pot. Who are they? Let’s find out.

Celebrities who smoke cannabis

As state legalization of cannabis continues in the United States, more individuals are opening up about using it. A University of Michigan’s “Monitoring the Future” study reported that marijuana use among young Americans hit record highs in 2021.

These are the top 10 famous celebs who enjoy consuming cannabis. Some personalities on this list may surprise you, from rappers to singers and actors.

1) Cameron Diaz

Cameron Diaz, star of “There’s Something About Mary” and “Knight and Day,” claimed she bought marijuana from Snoop Dogg while in school. She declared it to George Lopez in 2011 during an episode of his talk show, “Lopez Tonight.”

The Mask” and “Charlie’s Angels” actress attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School in California with the rapper. Diaz said, “Pretty sure I bought weed from him. I had to have (sic).”

2) Snoop Dogg

No list of weed-smoking celebrities would be complete without Snoop Dogg, who has a reputation for regularly using pot. During a 2012 Reddit chat, the rapper admitted that he smokes 81 blunts daily. He also said the longest he’s been off smoking is 164 days.

Besides consuming cannabis, Snoop Dogg invests in multiple marijuana start-ups. One is Oxford Cannabinoid Technologies, which went public on the London Stock Exchange in May 2021.

3) Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga, one of many celebrities who battled depression, disclosed her weed use in “Gaga: Five Foot Two,” her 2017 Netflix documentary. She said cannabis helps her cope with stardom stress and chronic fibromyalgia pain.

The singer, songwriter, and actress admitted on “60 Minutes” in 2011 that marijuana stimulates her song-writing creativity.

4) Willie Nelson

Country music superstar Willie Nelson is another one of many celebrities known for smoking weed. He told Rolling Stone in a 2019 interview, “I wouldn’t be alive. It saved my life, really.”

He also said, “I think that weed kept me from wanting to kill people. And probably kept a lot of people from wanting to kill me, too.”

Willie capitalized on his reputation as a “legendary stoner,” coming out with his line of hemp-infused teas and coffees, oil tinctures, and balm. He’s also the brand’s Chief Tasting Officer.

5) Seth Rogen

In 2011, Rogen told MTV News that marijuana helps him manage the daily grind. The actor who played a stoner in “Pineapple Express” and “Knocked Up” revealed he smokes while writing.

Rogen said, “Who wants to work? But if you’re stoned, it doesn’t seem like work.” He told Stephen Colbert in a 2019 interview about being buzzed the whole time daily, even while making movies.

6) Sarah Silverman

Like many celebrities smoking weed, Silverman has never kept her cannabis use from her fans. She showed TV host Giuliana Rancic her vape pen at a 2014 Emmy Awards interview on the red carpet. When appearing on “Conan” in 2015, the comedian admitted getting buzzed with her parents.

Silverman told BuzzFeed in 2015 that she was the first famous figure that Seth Rogen smoked cannabis with. In 2021, they joined other stars in “Cannabis in Common,” a movement encouraging Congress to make marijuana legal.

7) Melissa Etheridge

While many smoke pot for recreation, Etheridge started using cannabis for medical reasons in 2004 after her breast cancer diagnosis. In a Billboard interview, the singer/songwriter said that the herb helped her recover while undergoing chemotherapy.

Etheridge is another celebrity who ventured into a weed-related business. She’s co-founder of Etheridge Organics and Etheridge Botanicals, its sister company.

8) Megan Fox

Megan Fox doesn’t hide her marijuana use. In a 2009 GQ interview, she admitted to smoking weed. The “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Transformers” franchise actress is outspoken about America’s war on drugs, calling it “all propaganda.”

Fox is one of many celebrities hoping for worldwide cannabis legalization. She famously said that when it does, she’ll be the “first f****** person in line to buy a pack of joints.”

9) Woody Harrelson

Actor Woody Harrelson is among the celebrities who quit smoking weed. In 2017, he told Vulture about stopping using the herb. He said he didn’t smoke or vape for almost two years. “And then I ran into [Willie Nelson], and that was that.”

Harrelson is a member of the National Organization for Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) advisory board, advocating for legalizing cannabis use. NORML also works to ensure product safety and quality for consumers.

10) Miley Cyrus

Miley Ray Cyrus was the star of the “Hannah Montana” TV series, which ran from 2006 to 2011. The singer and actress stated in a 2013 Rolling Stone interview that, “I think weed is the best drug on earth.”

In a “Joe Rogan Experience” appearance in 2020, Cyrus admitted that she consumed weed during her teenage years to balance her acting and personal life. She quit smoking after undergoing vocal surgery toward the end of 2019 because she realized it could affect her voice.
