A company has started manufacturing colored glass tombstones in Cauverville-en-Roumois, in Eure. Reportage.

Imagine his life in color, even in death, with a personal epitaph, a family photo or a photo of his faithful friend on a glass plate. A glass products factory allows it. The technique is based on the knowledge of the company. The glass plate is cleaned, printed with the previously sent photo and then heated. “This is used for shower cubicles and kitchen splashbacks, which allows for a quality that lasts over time, without alteration by the sun.”, says a worker.

Launched this year, production remains anecdotal, with a few orders. But Daniel Port, director of Riou Glass VIP, hopes to make a name for himself in the funeral sector. “In countries like Mexico, you see a lot of color on the graves. There, not only do we have color, but also a very chic side with the glass”, he explains. More modern and design objects, whose target remains young people. A commemorative plaque costs 270 euros, and a glass stele 5 to 6,000 euros, against first prices at 2,000 for granite.
