A crowd movement, with circumstances still unclear, caused the death of at least 120 people and injured 100 in Seoul on the evening of Saturday, October 29, according to a new report announced by a fire official.
The drama unfolded after 10 p.m. local time in the bustling Itaewon district, where South Koreans celebrated Halloween for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic. Several thousand people gathered in the narrow streets of the South Korean capital.
A fire department spokesman said earlier that 140 ambulances had been deployed to the scene. Footage shows many victims receiving heart massage on the sidewalk.
South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol reacted by asking to prepare hospitals to receive the injured, the presidency said.
