It was a drinking problem that prompted Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price to seek help from the NHL’s Addictions Program and Players Association last year.
That’s what this morning revealed The Athletic in an exclusive interview with the keeper, as part of his series of articles on the 99 best players of the modern era.
The website places Price 88th in this ranking.
Price says he was greatly affected by his team’s loss in the Stanley Cup Finals in the summer of 2021, as well as by his knee surgery that followed.
The goalkeeper said he was unhappy and that he had reached a crossroads in his life where he had to take himself in hand.
Price also says he went public with his call for help to show people, especially First Nations people, that asking for help with substance abuse issues is a natural thing to do.
