Record store, café, snack bar, social club and now wine merchant, 180 g is one of those truly unique addresses in Montreal. Moved a few years ago from Mile-Ex to De Lorimier Avenue, north of Rosemont, the place is a joyful chaos.

We pass there in a breeze to devour a burger or we take advantage of an afternoon to peel the vinyls while sipping a coffee or a beer. The restaurant and shop sides communicate more than ever since My mother on fire took over from Mitch Deli.
Beaver Sheppard, a well-known figure in more underground Montreal restaurants – Bethlehem XXX having undoubtedly been one of the strangest adventures in which the chef has taken part! –, put the kitchen of the avenue De Lorimier in its sauce. The tone is set by retro posters unearthed at the neighbor’s which create a kind of “anti-decor” of old snacks. But no “$4 jumbo spaghetti” or “sexy waitresses” here, despite stating otherwise.
For now, Ma mère en feu tends to do burgers, fried chicken, homemade pogo, club and poutine. The occasional dish of the day allows the kitchen team to bring out plates that are (sometimes) a little less beefy. As announced at the opening of Ma mère en feu, last spring, the menu could quietly move towards a less “fast” cuisine, which would be more in keeping with the place’s new vocation as a neighborhood wine merchant.
The À Boisson Debout agency, whose portfolio of natural wines emphasizes artisans producing in very small quantities but of high quality, has just inaugurated its “wine fridge”. We will have access to a few rarities that should normally be ordered at the cash desk or drunk at a few good tables in our area. We are promised reasonable “cellar” prices to which will simply be added a corkage fee for consumption on the spot.
This Saturday, October 15, from midday to late, there will also be a very vinous and musical party at 180 g/My mother on fire, a question of quite simply celebrating all the pleasure that one can have in this atypical place where there is never a downtime.
