If you want to reduce your electricity and water bills, this may be a solution. The town of Saint-Sulpice-le-Guérétois (Creuse) inaugurates an eco-district, this October 23. It is a district which welcomes houses built with respect for the environment. In particular, residents will be able to produce part of their electricity, or even reuse rainwater for their homes. 21 lots make up this area: two will soon accommodate low-rent housing. The rest of the land is for sale, for owners who want to build a home.
The first houses in the eco-district will be built in early 2023.
Ecological constructions
The mayor, Eric Bodeau, is delighted: “These will be houses built with materials that respect the environment, especially with regard to thermal insulation and sound insulation. The other characteristic of these future constructions is that they will exploit the maximum exterior light. “The houses will be oriented so as to be lit as naturally as possible, so as not to have to use lighting and therefore reduce electricity consumption.“, adds the mayor of the town.
In terms of energy consumption, homes in the eco-district will certainly be connected to water and electricity, but there may be “solar panels on the roofs of houses“, and”buried tanks“, according to Eric Bodeau. These roofs can therefore provide part of the electricity of these accommodations. As for the tanks, they will be used to collect rainwater. Those water will be reused, especially for toilets and sanitary facilities.
Nothing is left to chance, including for land. Their development must not disturb the neighborhood. “The land is limited in size: it covers an area of between 550 and 800 square meters, so as not to encroach on agricultural land and allow farmers to exercise their profession.“, details the mayor of Saint-Sulpice-le-Guérétois. Not to mention that future inhabitants will have to use for example”local wood species“, to build the fences to limit each lot.
First houses in two years
For the moment, the grounds are still empty. There is only the lawn as well as the water and electricity connection cabinets. The paths are already marked out and the plots are delimited by wooden stakes. It’s only early 2023 that we will see the first houses rise from the ground.
This is housing intended for people with low incomes, who then wish to be able to buy their housing. “Two lots have already been allocated to this social landlord, who will build low-rent housing, with home ownership.“Says Mayor Eric Bodeau. As for the other nineteen plots, they will be available for sale as of October 23. The plots can be acquired by the owners, with a view to building their house. Applications have already been filed. , according to the town hall.
In the department, several municipalities have already installed eco-districts. This is the case of Lavaveix-les-Mines, Faux-la-Montagne, Saint-Fiel or even Saint-Priest-la-Feuille.
