Six prison guards tried in October in Lille for alleged violence against an inmate

The six prison guards accused of insulting, handcuffing and hitting a prison inmate in the North will be judged on October 13 in Lille for “violence in meetings by a person holding public authority“.

According to a source close to the case, the facts date back to January 3, when the guards intervened for a disturbance in a cell occupied by two prisoners. One of them is discovered naked in the shower, with a frying pan in his hand, insulting his fellow prisoner. Deemed threatening, he was then handcuffed and taken out of his cell to be placed in a disciplinary unit. On this occasion, the detainee said he was abused, according to the source, who underlined that prison CCTV footage shows he was knocked to the ground by officers while handcuffed.

Also heard, his fellow prisoner reported threats from the guards if he denounced the facts.
