The PQ wants to halve the illiteracy rate in Quebec by 2030 and proposes to offer “financial compensation to people who engage in a literacy process, so that they are not penalized by their decision “, proposes the party. He wants to put on the table, within four years, the sum of 100 million to “bring resources closer to citizens who need them, among others in primary and secondary schools, and in adult training centers”.

The independence party also wants to increase the budgets of organizations that work in adult literacy by 460 million per year, and proposes to increase professional resources in primary and secondary schools, and in adult training centers.

“We will give greater importance to the quality of the language in all school work, by reserving a compulsory part of the final mark for spelling and the quality of the written language. We will create a new tax credit for courses to improve the use of the French language, both in writing and in reading, or to improve communication skills,” it says.

The PQ recalls that 19% of Quebecers aged 16 to 65 are illiterate and 34.3% have great difficulty reading. “In addition, the pandemic has caused the number of literacy enrollments to drop by 70% in one year, which unfortunately leads to a drop in funding for resources in this area,” we lament.
