[Critique] “Origin,” Debbie Tebbs | The duty

A hard worker, Debbie Tebbs, she who, for twenty years, has made her nest on the Quebec electro scene as a DJ and composer. She never claimed to innovate, interpreting in her energetic and unifying way dance, house and electro, but with her new album Origin, she reveals herself and thus offers the best embodied songs of her career. Her quest for identity, which led her to find blood ties all the way to Chicago, also brings her back to the essence of club music that fascinates her, between boogie, electro-funk and disco — there is, in the best ofOriginthe same roots that inspired Daft Punk to make Random Access Memory (2013), the same kind of synth sounds, alchemy between the instrumentation live and digital music production. Her soft, even placid voice creates a contrast with the strength of her grooves and, on occasion, the sincerity of his texts, on Tell me, momthe nostalgic boom box and the title track featuring vocalist Alan Prater (The Brooks).
