Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne announced the extension of the energy shield on Wednesday, September 14. The increase in gas and electricity prices will be limited to 15% in 2023. Over what period? “We will see according to the evolution”explains Olivier Dussopt, Minister of Labor, Full Employment and Integration, guest of the “4 Truths” of France 2, Thursday, September 15.
All these measures have a cost. “It’s money, it’s the difficulty we have to hold the deficits and therefore the debt. So you have to know how to be reasonable. We keep a growth acquis which is solid, an economy which resists”says Olivier Dussopt.
In this difficult context, should we embark on a pension reform? “I believe so, because this reform is essential. The pension system is not financially balanced. The Pensions Orientation Council (COR) mentions a deficit from 2023, at 12.7 billion euros in 2027 and almost 20 billion in 2030”says the Minister of Labour, Full Employment and Integration.
What is the government’s position on the matter? “We are open to all hypotheses, whether it is the raising of the legal retirement age, the acceleration of the 2013-2014 reform which consists in increasing the contribution period. We do not want an increase contribution or an aggravation of the debt or deficit”, says Olivier Dussopt. Is an age measurement via an amendment in the PLFSS excluded? “We do not exclude any hypothesis”develops the Minister of Labour, Full Employment and Integration. “We must carry out the reform, in the most effective way, so that the Head of State’s commitment is kept, with a first application in 2023”he concludes.
