A shooting perpetrated by a soldier left two dead and one injured on Wednesday September 14 at a site of the powerful Royal Thai Army in Bangkok, according to a new report from the authorities. “Sergeant Major Yongyuth Mungkornkim (59) carried an unknown firearm and shot other army officers”Colonel Sirichan Nga-thong, a deputy army spokesman, said in a statement.
“Two soldiers are dead and another is injured and hospitalized… Yongyuth fled the scene but police and army inspectors managed to arrest him inside the compound”, he specified. The shooter “is the subject of legal proceedings”, he continued. A police spokesman told AFP that the assailant’s motives had yet to be determined.
The incident occurred around 8:45 a.m. local time (01:45 GMT) inside an army training site in a central district of Bangkok where it has many establishments. In February 2020, 29 people died in a massacre perpetrated by a soldier in a shopping center in Nakhon Ratchasima (northeast).
