In a season, there are matches to forget. This is part of it. However, the Rémois had everything to gain during this match: the team is in good shape, on a series of four matches without defeat, an attractive game, and an opponent in full doubt after three consecutive defeats.
But from the start of the game, it was the Toulouse team who proved to be dangerous. Two corners in the space of five minutes resulting in aerial interventions by Ivorian Emmanuel Agbadou. Other chills will run through the Reims defense. Until the beginning of a revolt with a long shot from Kamory Doumbia following a poor recovery from the Toulouse goalkeeper. An element that the Rémois will never be able to exploit: the errors of Maxime Dupé have never been sanctioned by Yunis Abdelhamid’s teammates, all in dire need of inspiration.
Half an hour of play passes, the moment chosen by the Toulouse team to open the scoring. Zakaria Aboukhlal launched in depth, at the limit of offside deceives Patrick Pentz with a cross shot. 1 goal to 0 for the TFC which will never be really worried again nor in the first period and even less in the second.
New sanctions
Under a blazing heat, leaving the locker room did not allow the Rémois to put their heads back in place. The second half is only a copy of the first: technical waste, inaccuracy in the passes, loss of ball… And this sad observation is as much Champagne as Toulouse. The frustration is great after these 90 minutes: the Rémois did not lose against stronger, the Rémois lost against less hardworking.
And the disappointments pile up: a red card at the hour of play (61st) for Alexis Flips. Logical red card, the Rémois will not contest the decision of Stéphanie Frappart. On the pitch, counting only the players, the Stade de Reims is on its fourth red card in seven games.
Ten minutes later, Dion Lopy came into play to replace a rather silent Jens Cadjust, and was punished with a yellow card. He will be suspended for the Champagne derby in Troyes on October 2. Another red card will also be sent to one of Will Still’s assistantson the Reims bench instead of Oscar Garcia, suspended for this meeting.
Other occasions will come to conclude at the end of the match a game which has never turned in favor of the Rémois.
