The reinforced and ambitious Périgueux rugby club for its first match in National 2

The National 2 season promises to be exciting. The new division recently created within French rugby, between the Federal One and the National, will see the best clubs of the Federal One groups compete against each other last year. Périgueux is of course one of them, the CAP can even be ambitious this season. Richard Hill players play their first match this Saturday, September 10 (6:30 p.m.), traveling to Auch in the Gers.

The season will be exciting, with rugby clubs getting much stronger. A dozen players recruited for Périgueux, but the others are not left out. From where the caution of the head coach when asked about goals: “I would like to finish in the top four, play the playoffs and have an opportunity to move up, but before saying that, I would like to know the level of the other clubs. I know that the other teams have strengthened their group, Arcachon, Niort , but like us, we strengthened our ruck”.

CAP aims higher

Périgueux made a judicious recruitment. For example with Pierre Tournebize, the winger from Brive in Top 14: “I was a bit fed up with the professional world, training a lot to play little, it may seem a bit strange to move from the Top 14 to a National 2 club but frankly, I am very pleasantly surprised and we have ambition”.

The love of the jersey has not been forgotten. As for Gaëtan Chapon, scrum half, raised in the Ciel et Blanc family before leaving for Bergerac and Valence d’Agen. But we always come back to our own : “Périgueux is my home, it’s my club, my city, that’s everything for me. I wanted to play at this level, it also played a lot to go to Périgueux”.

“A lot of frustration”

The CAP will be ambitious, the CAP aims higher. The CAP will also be on their guard, after the cold shower of the semi-finals last season. A first place in their group, but a defeat in the final stages against Rennes: “There is a lot of frustration, there are still a lot of guys who played that semi-final who are still there”admits the captain Marius Vialleback injury and forfeit for the first match on Saturday. “We can use that, we know what we should no longer do and what we should improve.”

“We play a lot of teams that were in our pool last year. We know that it will only be big games, more hung rugby. We will move with the label of the first in the class”. The match in Auch will already say a lot.
