Bruno Garcia from the Charente-Maritime fishing federation answers questions from the listeners of France Bleu la Rochelle, today, Jacques who is on family vacation in the Marans sector. This is a first for him and he would like to know where he should fish to hope to catch some fish. So where are we going to fish?
Bruno Garcia : Everywhere, in the Sèvre Niortaise to begin with, in the town of Marans as well as outside, but also in the Marans La Rochelle canal where the whole family can picnic in the shade and in peace. There are also all the canals: the boches, the banche etc…, they all have one thing in common, they converge towards the bay of the sting, and their downstream part, the lowest, forms the limit between the river area and the maritime domain. You can therefore fish everywhere from the heart of the city to the outside, from north to south and from east to west. And then Marans is also the place where you can rent land or lodgings on the edge of the water.
It is one of the capitals of fishing in Charente Maritime, so what do you catch in this abundance of canals?
Of all. From whitebait to wholesale.
Whitewash?
Roach, bream and in places goldfish which, even if they are not eaten, delight children for the fight they are capable of delivering. Huge carp and predators, in the larger rivers of course. In September everything can be captured.
Have you just found a new proverb?
It doesn’t really rhyme! Be careful though, the wind is often quite strong in this flat country and it is of course necessary to take into account the weather conditions and find a small sheltered corner.
So the techniques now
For the predator, the quick. For lack of live, we fish with lure, pike, black-bass, perch and zander are not lacking in this sector.
For the white fish?
You can prepare a shot over three or four days, throwing in a few handfuls of wheat or corn. This is generally a process that is reserved for those who live nearby. Don’t worry, a few groundbait dumplings stuffed with maggots at the start of the session, we also make very good peaches. A technique that works well this season, the Quiver-tip.
Que zaco, the quiver-tip?
I would rather have said, what is this . A technique that still comes to us from across the Channel. It is our friends the English who are the inventors. The quiver will replace the float, it is simply a flexible tip that will show you the keys. The quiver rod is a small, very sensitive casting rod equipped with a small reel. The assembly will rest on the bottom and as soon as it is seized by the fish, it will transmit a vibration in the rod.
Is this assembly special?
Even if it is aimed at good-sized fish, it must be quite thin, the reel and its reserve of line gives a fairly significant margin for error. In general this assembly is not equipped with a lead but rather with a federer.
Is it a specific material, this feeder?
Indeed, but which is aimed at all white fish, small or large. It is simply a small cylinder in which we will compact the primer. This is to keep the fish in place. It is a very effective and not very constraining method which has for ancestor the primer spring.
