A garrigue fire broke out last night in Cap Béar, at Anse Sainte-Catherine, in Port-Vendres near the Spanish border between Argelès-sur-Mer and Banyuls-sur-Mer. Five hectares of garrigue went up in smoke.
On the spot, a hundred firefighters from the Pyrénées Orientales are mobilized with about fifteen vehicles specialized in forest fires. Firefighters face difficult conditions, including a strong tramuntana according to them. Access conditions, a rocky area by the sea, do not facilitate their work either.
No evacuation, no home threatened
For the moment, none of the few rare dwellings present on the scene is threatened according to the firefighters who have placed vehicles in protection.
Firefighters still do not know the origin of this scrubland fire.
