People who have eaten food purchased between August 17 and 30 at Boulangerie Baladi, located at 2485, rue de Salaberry, in Montreal, are at risk of being infected with the hepatitis A virus.
This was indicated by the Montreal Regional Public Health Department on Tuesday in a press release.
Customers who have visited the bakery in the last two weeks and who have never caught hepatitis A, or who have not been vaccinated against this virus, are invited to contact the CLSC d’Ahuntsic at 514-384- 2000, ext. 8302, to make an appointment to receive a vaccine.
This vaccination will be offered free of charge.
Hepatitis A can be transmitted by ingesting the virus present in water, food or drink or on contaminated objects.
According to the Department of Health and Human Services, symptoms may appear 15 to 50 days after infection. They may include nausea and vomiting, fever, diarrhea and jaundice.
“In the majority of cases, hepatitis A virus infection clears up on its own within 2 months. The body gets rid of the virus and produces antibodies that protect the person against any new infection with the hepatitis A virus,” reads the MSSS website.
