Raphaël Fiévez, the solidarity candidate who had been expelled from the party after posting his appreciation of a column by Richard Martineau, was recruited as a volunteer by the Parti Québécois (PQ).
Mr. Fiévez, a social worker working in Montreal, took part in a scrum alongside PQ leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon on Wednesday. The latter then took the opportunity to deliver a speech on freedom of expression.
Originally, Raphaël Fiévez was to represent Québec solidaire in the riding of L’Assomption. The party removed him from their team after he shared and commented on a column on social media by Richard Martineau titled “Racism of anti-racist wokes”, revealed The Journal of Quebec last week.
Québec solidaire and the Parti Québécois are in direct competition in several ridings on the island of Montreal, from where the PQ was driven out in the last election.
Earlier this week, Solidarity Parliamentary Leader Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois broke an informal rule that leaders should not campaign in their opponents’ ridings by going to Camille-Laurin, where Mr. St-Pierre Plamondon is candidate.
The Parti Québécois is also presenting one of its star candidates – actor Pierre-Luc Brillant – in the riding of Rosemont, currently represented by the solidary Vincent Marissal.
