“Ma France, l’été” continues its tour of the south of France. We are in Nîmes, in the heart of the Gard: discover the must-see sites and personalities of this department, which between nature and culture is full of treasures.
Gard’s Bridge
Sebastien Arnaud is the director of the Pont du Gard site. He describes its characteristics. Masterpiece of ancient architecture, the Pont du Gard is one of the best preserved Roman remains in the world. With a height of 48.77 meters, it is composed of three rows of superimposed arches, which constitutes an extremely rare achievement for the time. It is the most visited ancient site in France.
For positive information
“My France, summer” receives Delphine Laouenan for his blog, “The Gard effect”, which offers local and positive Gard information, to promote the territory and its inhabitants. By testing local products and services and providing feedback as a consumer, Delphine Laouënan wants to become a local nano-influencer, but also to project a positive image on quality of life in the Gard by sharing moments of his private life (cooking recipes, ideas for outings, hobbies).
The basket weavers of Vallabrègues
Vallabregues is the emblematic village of basketry in the Gard: at the height of its production of banastes and baskets, it counted up to 400 basket makers as well as chair makers. “My France, summer” receives Daniel Benibghi, basket weaver from L’Oseraie de Vallabrègues, who is the last active local representative of a centuries-old craft. To have quality basketwork, it is imperative to have good wicker. This is why Daniel Benibghi has planted his own willow beds with varieties such as petite grisette, noir de Vilaine… Wicker is an ecological material which, in its region, does not require any treatment.
Trout fishing
The “Green Initiative” of the day is that ofAntonin Simon, fishing instructor guide, and member of the Gard Fishing Federation. The Fédération du Gard, a player in the management and protection of aquatic environments, promotes and monitors the departmental fish farm, supported by its member associations by relying on a dense network of associations of fishermen who are watchdogs and protectors of the Gard aquatic environment. It pursues three main objectives: the development and promotion of leisure fishing, the management and protection of aquatic environments, the fishing police and the surveillance of aquatic environments.
Leo Pastguide, tells us about the legends that have been created around “L’abîme de Bramabiau”, an underground river in the Aigoual massif.
