The Vauvert votive festival, one of the most important in the Gard, will have a slightly different taste this year. For the first time, on opening night on August 13, the “toro de fuego” will not be burned due to fire restrictions and drought. “The Vauverdois know they can count on the gangs of young people in particular to ensure the atmosphere, no need for a flame to set fire to the arenas “says Jean Denat, the mayor of Vauvert. Instead, a mini pégoulade with two decorated tractors and large trailers that will descend from the Place du Griffe to the arenas, behind a cardboard toro. To replace the torches, 200 luminous LED TAP TAP sticks and confetti cannons.
Surprises in the arenas
Surprises are also planned for the spectators in the arenas with a color party on the track with DJs who will liven up the evening. Accessories will be offered to the public to make the arenas shine. No fires either in the meadows. The mayor invites the public to take responsibility by favoring cold breakfasts. A discovery session of the Camargue race will be offered to new Vauverdois on Sunday August 14, during the Trophée de l’Avenir race. It will be commented on by a member of the festivities committee. The Vauvert festival lasts until August 21 inclusive.
