In the Somme, a baker, forced to close shop for lack of customers, has developed a delivery service. Today, she distributes her bread in the most remote villages.

For three days, Emilie Gonçalves, a baker in Acheux-en-Amienois (Somme), has no longer been behind her counter, but behind a steering wheel. For lack of sufficient customers in the shop after five months of opening, the baker now devotes herself exclusively to rounds. Every day, she travels the area within a radius of 15 km, in villages where the bakery has sometimes disappeared for a long time.

“There is no baker in the village, so you have to be served by someone”, says a resident of Puisieux (Pas-de-Calais). The organization needs to be reviewed for Laurent Gonçalves, the baker. He has 400 loaves to make a day, also to supply the three vending machines installed nearby. “It takes us from 60 kg of flour to 130 a day. Before, I took four hours to make them, now I put in around nine”he explains.
