Tuesday August 2, a fire broke out in Laluque, in the Landes. It takes place while the department’s firefighters are mobilized by several fire outbreaks in a few days.
In Laluque, 60 km north of Dax (Landes), more than thirty hectares burned on Tuesday August 2. A large plume of smoke rises from a pine forest. On the ground, more than a hundred firefighters are supported by aerial means, two Canadair and a Dash, which carry out several drops before nightfall. The fire started around 3 p.m. and crossed a railway line. Tuesday evening, train traffic is interrupted between Bordeaux (Gironde) and Bayonne (Pyrénées-Atlantiques). Nearly 2,000 passengers are said to be stranded in Dax station (Landes).
Two homes have been evacuated and more evacuations are underway. This fire comes as the department’s firefighters are still mobilized on the fire in Mano (Landes). With this new outbreak of fire, the Landes prefecture placed the department on fire red vigilance on Wednesday August 3.
