Quebec mountaineer Richard Cartier met a tragic end last weekend, on the sides of the second highest mountain in the world, K2, in Pakistan, which rises to 8611 meters.

His body was found last night near Camp 1, about 6,100 meters above sea level, the Nepalese daily reports. Himalayan Times.
The climber, a doctor in Saint-Jérôme, aged in his sixties, had been seen for the last time as he descended between camps 2 and 1, after reaching camp 4, located at 8000 meters.
Richard Cartier was then accompanied in particular by Quebec mountaineer Justin Dubé-Fahmy, who documented the expedition through social media. Mr. Dubé-Fahmy, however, has not written anything since July 21.
“Tuesday, we did BC at the Japanese C3, 7000 m, he wrote last Thursday. We thought it was the C2.5, but no! richard [Cartier]Matt [Eakin] and I were burned. 16 hours of climbing. Then today, we hit lower C4 (7600 m). Back at Base Camp tomorrow. It is starting to get cold. We are very tired after these two big days. »
It was during this descent that Richard Cartier and his teammate, Australian mountaineer Matt Eakin, died.
Richard Cartier’s family preferred not to comment on the tragedy in the media.
