The last three press briefings from Quebec Public Health were alike in every way. Despite the 7e wave in full swing, there is nothing to be alarmed about. Doctor Luc Boileau once again invited us to remain cautious. After all, COVID-19 isn’t what it used to be. Then the majority of Quebecers were vaccinated. All is well in the best of all worlds, right?
So the public health director of Quebec reiterated to us that the vaccination had to continue all the same and that the booster doses were important. Then oh, great novelty, beware of large summer gatherings, such as those at music festivals. He took the opportunity to encourage the wearing of the mask, without insisting too much on this sanitary measure.
Luc Boileau, the Minister of Health and our Prime Minister agree on one point: we must learn to live with COVID. It reminds me that François Legault inadvertently told groups of schoolchildren met at the last Quebec Book Fair that COVID had now become like a big flu.
So why should the government still enforce a measure like wearing a mask in enclosed public spaces? […]
The problem is that just in my small circle of mine, at work, among my friends, no less than twenty people have contracted COVID in one month. No one died, fortunately. But some were scared. Some had severe symptoms. In Quebec, on Wednesday July 20, there were 20 deaths. And the number of hospitalizations has exploded for three weeks in our hospitals. But hey, we have to learn to live with COVID, it seems. […] After all, the 7e wave, this is only the continuation of the 6e, it should not be given too much importance. At the limit, we have to fight it, while waiting for the 8e wave and so on. […]
There will be more outbreaks, more hospitalizations and more deaths. […] Let’s be careful, that’s all.
