A 32-year-old man suspected of having killed three young people aged 16, 18 and 20 in Angers on the night of Friday July 16 to Saturday July 17, 2022 was indicted and placed in detention the next day: he is suspected of having killed three young men. According to the prosecutor, it all started with a sexual assault on two young women. One of the victims who saw his cousin stabbed spoke in front of BFMTV cameras.
Taylan is one of those injured by this man in the streets of Angers. He recounted what he saw during this evening which turned into a tragedy: “We were confused because he touched a girl’s butt. Me, he insulted me so I kicked him in the mouth. He fell straight. We called the fire department, we thought he was dead.”
Except that the man left the emergency room and returned to the scene at 3 a.m., armed with a knife. After trying to get him to leave by talking to him, Taylan is targeted with his knife: “By the time I turn around, the guy has planted me. [Mon proche] pushed me, he took the blow for me. If he hadn’t been there, I would have taken the blow to the head. He saved me. (…) We were 7, we lost three brothers in one evening. In less than 30 seconds, he had already planted everyone. It’s shocking to see. I saw my cousin bleeding out right here. It hurts.”
The suspect, a Sudanese national, says he has no memory of these facts because of his alcoholism. Placed in pre-trial detention, he is accused of several counts, including “attempted aggravated murder” and “sexual assault”, said prosecutor Éric Bouillard in a press release. He obtained political refugee status in 2018 “and is therefore in a regular situation (in France) until 2028”, the magistrate told AFP.
The tragic death of the three young people aroused great emotion in Angers, especially since two of them had practiced rugby since their childhood and until last year at SCO Rugby.
