The agreement concerns members of the Unifor union, which is affiliated with the FTQ.

These 1,000 employees will now be called upon to vote on the agreement in principle that was reached during meetings that will take place in the coming days. The results of the votes will be known on July 22, Unifor said Friday.

The practice in this area is that each union begins by settling the local clauses specific to its factory. Common terms, such as wages, are then negotiated at the central table between the large union Unifor and the company that has been designated—Resolute Forest Products, in this case.

Subsequently, this employment contract serves as a model for negotiating with other sawmills.
