There is a more ecological alternative to air conditioners for cooling: the “urban cooling” network. Pipes blow fresh air into buildings using water from rivers. In Paris, the Seine notably provides air conditioning for the Louvre Museum.

While scorching temperatures are falling on France, in this week of Monday July 11, the big cities use the water of the rivers to cool themselves. In Paris, and more particularly at the Louvre Museum or the Quai Branly Museum, water from the Seine is used to air-condition the premises. The water from the river is collected, then goes into large tanks which will then expel the water, with 5 degrees more. This air conditioning system does not heat the air.

In addition to being more ecological, this alternative is also more economical. In Paris, the system provides fresh air to many buildings, such as the National Assembly or certain museums. This system should be much more widespread in the next twenty years. France is also a pioneer in this area, because its system is the oldest.
