Environment Canada is monitoring the situation closely in the Drummondville, Mauricie, Capitale-Nationale, Richelieu Valley and Vaudreuil-Soulanges-Huntingdon regions.
A severe thunderstorm watch is also in effect in Beauce, Outaouais, the Laurentians, Lanaudière and Greater Montreal.
“Seek shelter immediately if a threatening weather phenomenon is approaching. Remember that severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes,” reads the federal agency’s website.
Environment Canada warns that very strong gusts can damage buildings, uproot trees and carry large vehicles off the road.
Water activities could also prove to be dangerous due to the violent and sudden gusts that blow over the bodies of water. “Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Don’t forget: when the thunder rumbles, come inside quickly,” reminds Environment Canada.
