An investigation by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists shows that in 2015, Emmanuel Macron, then Minister of the Economy, helped Uber establish itself in France.

The Uber Files, thousands of documents recovered by the British newspaper The Guardian, and shared with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) and its partners, revealed how Emmanuel Macron helped Uber establish itself in France. Since 2014, the company has indeed benefited from the benevolence and support of the current President of the Republic, when he was at the Ministry of the Economy.

EBetween September 2014 and February 2016, many exchanges took place between Uber and Emmanuel Macron. There would have been more than thirty direct contacts with the firm and the minister’s office, and at least four meetings between the minister and Travis Kalanick, CEO of Uber, three of which have remained secret until today. An agreement would have taken place on the alleviation of the conditions for obtaining VTC licenses against the stoppage of Uber “Pop”, a platform which allowed anyone to declare themselves a driver to make ends meet, and which had angered the taxis.
