The independent deputy for Bonaventure, Sylvain Roy, announced Monday morning that he will not be a candidate in the October 2022 elections.
During a press briefing, Mr. Roy stressed the need for an independent MNA to take a position on all the issues. The elected also claimed to be a “pragmatic sovereignist” and not to be interested in the political offer of other parties. “So you will not be surprised, I am announcing that I will not be a candidate in the next election,” he said.
“I have never approached the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) or been approached by the CAQ despite the rumors conveyed,” said Mr. Roy.
The deputy for the riding of Bonaventure, Sylvain Roy, had left the PQ caucus in June 2021. The elected official had indicated on Twitter that an event had “broken the bond of trust that existed between me and the leader of the Parti québécois [Paul St-Pierre Plamondon]”.
Mr. Roy was elected for the first time under the PQ banner during the 2012 general election in Bonaventure. He was re-elected in 2014, as well as in 2018.
