Third stage and last stage in Denmark this Sunday July 3. After Fabio Jakobsen’s victory in the sprint in Nyborg at the end of the 2nd stage, the peloton will link Velje, on the Jutland peninsula, and Sonderborg. The runners will cover 182 km and cross the region, one of the most hilly in Denmark, from north to south, passing through two UNESCO World Heritage sites. The planned finish in the port town of Sonderborg, not far from the German border, is the ideal place for a bunch sprint.
Another sprint for this 3rd stage
A sprint is expected this Sunday for the third and last Danish day of the Tour de France, between Vejle and Sönderborg. Before the long transfer to reach France, some 900 kilometers that the riders will cover by plane in the evening, the race is “dedicated to sprinters” according to its director Thierry Gouvenou.
“The final is quite sheltered, there are no traps in store and the sprinting teams should be able to control the breakaways easily”, he assures. Well before the final straight of 800 meters installed in Sönderborg, a town of some 75,000 inhabitants, the route of the Tour passes shortly after the start of the stage through Jelling (Km 12). The site, which is said to be the historic heart of the Danish nation, houses pieces dating back to pre-Viking times, into the first centuries AD. Three small climbs of the fourth category are staggered in the first two thirds of the route of this flat stage traced in Syddanmark, southern Denmark, bordering Germany.
