Two people were found dead and another was in critical condition Thursday afternoon after a serious fire broke out around 7:10 a.m. Thursday in Longueuil.
The Longueuil agglomeration police service (SPAL) indicated in a press release that the two bodies had not been formally identified.
In the morning, the SPAL had reported that the firefighters had not yet managed to control the disaster, which made it impossible to confirm whether there were people inside the family residence in flames, or whether people were missing.
But in the middle of the afternoon, the police confirmed the two dead.
The burned house is located on rue Cuvillier Est. The fire spread to nearby buildings.
The SPAL reports that several residents of the area have been evacuated.
A section of rue Cuvillier Est had to be closed between chemin de Chambly and rue Chateaufort.
SPAL investigators are on site and are trying to establish the causes of the fire.
