The coalition of parties supporting Emmanuel Macron has grown from 350 to 245 deputies in five years. Enough to go from an absolute majority to a very relative majority.

The presidential majority… less and less of a majority. Together!, the coalition of parties that support Emmanuel Macron, won 245 seats in the National Assembly on Sunday, June 19, during the second round of legislative elections. A score well below the 289 deputies needed to reach an absolute majority and a figure in freefall compared to 2017, when La République en Marche and the MoDem won 350 seats at the Palais Bourbon.

Despite the re-election of Emmanuel Macron in April 2022, La République en Marche, the MoDem and Horizons achieve an unprecedented underperformance: it is the smallest relative majority of the Fifth Republic. What raise the question of the capacity of the head of state to be able to govern the country and to vote the promised reforms, in particular that of pensions.

Symbols of the slap received, the defeats of the Macronist leaders have multiplied: the President of the Assembly Richard Ferrand, beaten in his stronghold of Finistère, and the boss of the LREM deputies, Christophe Castaner, in the Alpes-de-Haute -Provence. Three ministers, Amélie de Montchalin (Ecological Transition), Brigitte Bourguignon (Health) and Justine Benin (Sea), have also bitten the dust and will have to leave the government.

In detail, the presidential majority loses many constituencies against the National Rally, particularly in the South-East, in the North-East and in Aquitaine, but also in Nupes, in particular in the west of Paris, the inner suburbs and the overseas.
