During the 9th stage of the Tour de France, the riders will link Aigle in Switzerland to Châtel (Haute-Savoie) at 1927 meters above sea level. Of the 192.9 kilometers only the last ten of the course will be run in France, the rest will take the roads of the cantons of Vaud, Friborg and Valais, along Lake Geneva or in the Swiss Alps. This will be the first real mountain stage, which will necessarily impose a new rhythm on the peloton, without however pushing the riders to their extreme limit. According to Christian Prudhomme, the director of the Tour de France, “A well-calibrated breakaway group could take advantage of this smooth entry into the Alps.
