The day was going to be hot this Saturday, June 18, 2022 and it was. But the models of Météo France anticipated in Ile-de-France a peak of around 40 degrees and which could have beaten the heat records for the month of June. Nothing happened even though a record has indeed been broken in the region, in Seine-et-Marne, in Nemours.
The station located in this town noted at the height of the day 38.7 degrees in shade. The record was two tenths lower, at 38.5 degrees on June 27, 2011, since records began in 1990. It is often in this part of Ile-de-France that the mercury rises the most.
Too pessimistic models?
The maximum temperatures in Ile-de-France recorded by Météo-France this Saturday are between 35 and 39 degrees. For example, in our various departments, we have achieved:
- In Paris-Montsouris: 36.7 degrees (the record is 37.6 degrees in June 1947)
- At Orly (Val-de-Marne), 36.1 degrees
- At Trappes (Yvelines), 36.0 degrees
- At Roissy (Val-d’Oise), 35.3 degrees
- In Dourdan (Essonne), 37.6 degrees
- In Fontainebleau (Seine-et-Marne), 38.5 degrees (equaling the June 2011 record)
Globally, the temperatures did not cross the threshold of 40 degrees, as Météo France had first announced. “A few days ago, the models were blowing too much hot air over the Paris region. Looking at the latest models, we were more like 38, 39 degrees for Paris and on observation we were at 36, 37 degrees, notes Frédéric Long, forecaster at Météo-France. On the one hand, the models overestimated the rise of warm air and on the other hand, they made it rise too far north. But the feeling of heat was very present in the region.“
Another hypothesis is advanced: the sky of Paris was not very clear, “perhaps particles of pollution and sand from the atmosphere have attenuated the radiation of the sun“.
