Around 10 a.m. Sunday, highway patrols attempted to intercept a motorist traveling eastbound on Highway 30 following traffic violations.

During the intervention with the police, the driver fled. He took the ramp to 15 and a pursuit was initiated.

The man went to the 132 in the Varennes sector, then took the Montée de Picardie towards the 30, where he returned to his starting point.

“He still refused to stop. [Les policiers] tried to use the nail carpet, but it turned out to be ineffective,” said Sergeant Stéphane Tremblay, spokesman for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

The police finally immobilized him in the Saint-Constant sector.

The driver, who was slightly injured when his vehicle immobilized, was transported to a hospital in Longueuil. He is arrested for absconding, dangerous driving and assaulting a peace officer. He will be detained until his appearance.

Two police cars were also damaged during the intervention.
