Nine cases have been reported in Ontario, four in Alberta and one in British Columbia. They are men between the ages of 20 and 63.

Most of them reported having had sex with other men, but the virus can be transmitted to anyone through close contact. Virus sequencing demonstrates that these cases are linked to the outbreak reported elsewhere in the world.

The National Advisory Committee on Immunization now recommends offering a single dose of monkeypox vaccine to people at high risk of contact with a probable or confirmed case.
