“It is urgent to tell the President of the Republic: here are our proposals and here is what we do not want”, indicates Laurent Berger, Friday June 10 on France Inter. The secretary general of the CFDT and president of the European Trade Union Confederation is invited to lunch at the Elysée, in the presence of Emmanuel Macron and other unions. “It’s not com”he believes, responding to critics who see this invitation as a political and electoral strategy.
For his part, the leader of the CGT, Philippe Martinez, declined the invitation. “To do the policy of the empty chair, at a time when we are going to see the one who is reproached for not having listened to us enough in recent years, I do not understand the messageadds Laurent Berger. It doesn’t come into play in the campaign. He is elected and not to go is to desert what is our raison d’être, the defense of workers.”
Laurent Berger plans to hand over to the Head of State “a file with everything the CFDT carries” and of “ask him about the ads” made recently to respond to the inflation that is weighing on households. He intends to plead in favor of aid measures “more targeted” towards the most modest, believing that “the urgency of the period is to respond to all those who have purchasing power difficulties”.

The secretary general of the CFDT will also defend more restrictive measures to encourage “companies and professional branches to negotiate wage increases; iThere is a lever for this: public aid or reductions in contributions”.
Laurent Berger also wishes to ask Emmanuel Macron for details concerning the CNR, this “National Council for Refoundation” announced by the executive to concretize the “change of method” promised by the President of the Republic. According to him, “it must above all serve to listen and co-construct” and not to create a “additional structure”.
