An agreement was reached on the evening of Monday, May 30, in Brussels, between the Europeans. By the end of 2023, 90% of oil imports will no longer be Russian. Should we therefore expect a new surge in prices at the pump?
The agreement had been awaited for several weeks by the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky. Europeans will do without 90% of the oil they buy from Russia by the end of 2023. This sixth package of sanctions against Moscow (Russia) will have consequences on the purchasing power of the French, who are already preparing.
For Céline Antonin, economist at the OFCE, the price of a liter of fuel should increase in the coming weeks. “We could have a price per barrel that flies away, which reaches 130, 150 dollars”, she estimates, quantifying the price at the pump at 2.20 or 2.30 euros. The price of a barrel of oil reached, on the morning of Tuesday, May 31, 124 dollars. It had not been this high since the beginning of March.
