Nothing beats an outing with family or friends to the small artisanal ice cream parlor in the area. The little happiness provided by each lick of ice (this one strategically targeted) so as not to find any on your shoes is worth its weight in gold. Whether you like to get out of your comfort zone – read here a vanilla and chocolate marbled – or not, here are some artisanal dairies that are worth the detour.
unicon
In the palm of artisanal ice creams that burst with originality, Unicone is at the top of the list. This creamery headed by two young entrepreneurial sisters literally takes us on a journey, bit by bit. Each flavor honors a typical dessert of a country or region: India with pista kulfi (saffron, cardamom, rose water and pistachio ice cream with a mango and banana sorbet), Japan with a matcha duo and strawberry mochi, or Quebec with blueberries and maple syrup. It should also be added that the majority of the creations are vegan.
Victoria Cheese Factory
If you’re planning on hitting the road this summer, with 20 locations across the province, chances are you’ll come across a Fromagerie Victoria. You have understood correctly: your supply of fresh cheese curds for the day can be enhanced with a soft cream, a sundae or their signature Vic-Mixte with flavors that will certainly delight young and old. Something to make useful… pleasant.
The Frosties
- lesfrosts.ca
- 334 Castelnau Street East, Montreal
- 2730 Masson Street, Montreal
- 3681 Ontario Street East, Montreal
For the perfect compromise between tradition and originality (without however compromising the quality of the ingredients), we go to one of the three addresses of the excellent dairy Les Givrés. Between the soft ice cream of the moment which always honors a fruit from Quebec, the traditional vanilla one (dipped in chocolate!) or in balls flavored with bagel, maple butter, raspberry, chocolate-banana, of biscuit – to name only these flavors – there is no shortage of choice! A selection of vegan ice cream is also offered.
Dalla Rose
Possibly the best ice cream in the southwest of the city! First recognized for its famous ice cream sandwiches, the Dalla Rose has subsequently created a real craze thanks to its creations as surprising as they are delicious. If tastes like jam donut, Thai tea, sponge toffee or snikerdoodle are not in your palette, rest assured, the chocolate, vanilla, hazelnut and coffee of this world are on the menu. The flavors change every week: stay tuned!
