Quebec author François Blais died on the night of Friday to Saturday, at his home in Charette in Mauricie, at the age of 49. The news was first relayed on social networks by comedian Rémi-Pierre Paquin.
“François Blais is gone… I just spent 30 minutes looking at this sentence without being able to write anything else,” he shared on Facebook.
“You really made me laugh. Maybe the way the wires were plugged into your head made you a little miserable putting up with it all, but selfishly, it made you really fun to be around. A fascinating, brilliant, lucid and squealing funny being, ”he continues.
“Words fail us to express our dismay at his decision, we who have had the immense privilege of knowing François since the publication of his first novel in 2006. To a certain extent, we have the impression of having grown up with him, invited to share his world that is both cynical and tender. The world of letters in Quebec is richer, more vibrant and more beautiful because François dared to shake some of its foundations. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones, who now have to live with the absence of a brother, a son, a friend, ”shared the publishing house L’instant meme on its Facebook page.
