Many political parties announce their change of name, starting with LREM which becomes Renaissance.
Thursday, May 5, the LREM party changed its name to Renaissance. Reconquest, Horizon… the parties more easily use common names instead of acronyms. “Very frankly, I find that these are catch-all words”, testifies a man. Under the Fifth Republic, parties often changed names. The Union for the New Republic of the Gaullists became the UDR, then the RPR. The RPR expanded in 2002 to become the UMP, then Les Républicains in 2015.
In 2018, the National Front transformed itself into the National Rally in order to continue its demonization. “When you want to change your name, you want to change meaning, vision. We want to change the perception, not only of its members, but of the general public”, details Frank Tapiro, expert in political communication. With the upheaval experienced by the traditional parties, they would be more inclined to change their name.
